John T. Lucas

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of our beloved brother John T. Lucas. John, surrounded by peace and the love of his family, left us on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at the age of 67 at OSF Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. John was born on September 18,1958 in LaSalle, Illinois. He was the son of Matthew J. and Kathryn Joan (Monaghan) Lucas. He spent most of his life in the Illinois Valley.

John was a 1976 graduate of LaSalle-Peru Township High School. Furthering his education, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois and went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. From 1985 to 1987 he proudly served our Country in the United States Army. For many years he was a Distribution Specialist for a variety of transportation companies.

Affectionately known by many as “Red”, John was deeply devoted to his family and friends. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He liked playing family games, games of chance and the thrill of trying his Irish Luck. While spending time at local gathering spots such as Sajnaj’s and John’s Place, he enjoyed making memories, good friendships and great conversations. Above all, he most treasured the times he spent with family and friends. His life is not to be measured by the dates 1958 - 2026, but by the “Dash” in between which was filled with the love he gave, the life of joy he lived and the many lives he touched. He will be missed beyond words.

John is survived by two sons, Shane and Brady, both of Chicago, Illinois. He is also survived by his beloved brothers and sisters, Timothy (Cindy) Lucas of Pekin, Debra (George) Baker of Peru, Dennis Lucas of Iowa City, Iowa, Rodney Lucas of St. Petersburg, Florida, Rebecca Thompson of Winfield, Patricia (Bob) Lucas of Round Lake Beach, Tad (Amy) Lucas of Normal, Valerie (Marty) Terlap of Lindenhurst and Sean (Kelly) Lucas of Crystal Lake. He is also loved by his fifteen nieces which include his God-children Melissa Solomon, Bethann Zeriau, and Makenzie Lucas as well as four nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Matthew J. and Kathryn Joan (Monaghan) Lucas, and one great-niece.

The family will be holding a private memorial service followed by a burial in Peru City Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to Cops for Cancer, P.O. Box 1461, LaSalle, Illinois 61301.
