Mrs Laura Katherine Klabel

Laura Katherine Klabel 60 of Peru. Passed away peacefully April 24, 2025, at home surrounded her loved ones.

Mrs. Laura Katherine Klabel was born on August 9, 1964, in Norman, Oklahoma to William and Nancy Kaighn. As a child Laura loved softball, playing piano, singing, listening to rock and roll and playing in the neighborhood with her many friends. Laura was gregarious with an incredible sense of humor which kept her friends and family laughing. Laura loved animals too. When she was quite young, she used to rock the beloved family dog, E.B. (short for Easter Bunny) to sleep singing, "Come on Baby, Light My Fire."

As an adult she became an incredible cook and spent many years working at the Igloo in her adopted hometown of Peru, Illinois. She loved her bosses and coworkers and felt like she was part of a wonderful work family.

Laura met her beloved future husband, Mr. Dennis W. Klabel, in 1999. They married and spent twenty-five happy years together. Laura loved the beautiful home overlooking the river that Dennis built for her. She delighted in decorating her home and garden with colorful flowers. They enjoyed being at home spending time with their family and cherished pets: Phoebe, Sam, Ollie and Oscar the rabbit.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents, William and Nancy Kaighn, and her bonus-son, Dennis Klabel Jr. She is survived by her husband, Mr. Dennis W. Klabel, and siblings Kevan Kaighn, Charles Kaighn, Julie Jones, Lisa Kaighn and her bonus-siblings Brent and Sheri Grantham, their spouses and children.

She is also survived by her bonus-daughter Tara Lee, her husband Jacob Pirkle, seven grandchildren and her nieces and nephews on her husband's side.

Private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
