Salvatore C. "Sam" Maggio

Salvator C. “Sam” Maggio 53 of Walnut, formerly of La Salle. Passed away January 7, 2026, in OSF St Anthony Medical Center Rockford.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Celebration of life will at a later date. Ptak Funeral home has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Salvatore was born April 28,1972 in La Salle to Salvatore A. Maggio and Janice (Nogay) Turczyn.

Sam was a 1990 graduate of La Salle- Peru Township High School. He worked as a cook for The Root Beer Stand in Oglesby. Salvatore was an avid pool player, Enjoyed fishing, camping and the love of cars.

Sam is survived by his fiancé Tammie Umphress, his son Kyle Maggio. His brother Jay (Missy) Maggio. Sisters JoAnn (PJ) Frank and Sandra Fultz. His stepdaughters Tammie (Joseph) Evans, Andrea (Kenny) Barkley, stepson Powers (Kisinya) Goldwire. His stepfather Dale Turczyn. 1 Stepbrother Dan Turczyn and 7 Grandchildren. Salvatore is also survived by many nieces and nephews, Aunts, Uncles and cousins.

Sam was preceded in death by his mother Janice and father Sal, stepfather Bob Phelps and 1 Grandson Leo Barkley.
